The Story

“Jazz lovers will go ape over this film… this Swiss doc is heaven-sent and heaven itself.” — Film Journal International

Premiering at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival, this revelatory, thrilling and emotional film gives unique access behind the scenes of Blue Note Records, the pioneering label that gave voice to some of the finest jazz artists of all time. Founded in New York in 1939 by German-Jewish refugees Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff, and home to such groundbreaking artists as Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, Blue Note Records’ history goes beyond the music, encompassing the struggle of black artists to be heard, the conflict between art and commerce, and the idea of music as a revolutionary force.
