John Coltrane is arguably the biggest name in jazz history. Tonight, saxophonist Richard Pavlidis and his quartet present a special tribute to celebrate Coltrane’s 100th birthday.
From his famous ‘classic quartet’ to iconic collaborations with Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk, Coltrane’s musical innovations remain at the pinnacle of jazz to this day. Through both his groundbreaking saxophone playing and enduring compositions, ‘Trane’ transformed jazz, expanding the music’s technical, harmonic, and expressive possibilities while influencing generations of musicians.
A Victorian College of the Arts graduate, Richard Pavlidis has released two critically acclaimed solo albums (‘Without Within’, 2019 and ‘Iconography’, 2023), and has performed extensively at leading jazz festivals across Australia and internationally.
