“The Zweiflers, which puts Yiddish in the mouths of its characters in a very authentic way, is not only a fun watch, but also a provocative and refreshing one, that complexifies, refutes and plays with common conceptions and misconceptions about Jewish life in Germany.” – In Geveb
Part 2 (episodes 4-6)
Take one part The Sopranos and one part Succession and set it in a Jewish deli, and you get The Zweiflers. Winner of Best Series at Canneseries, The Zweiflers is a vibrant six-episode series about a contemporary German Jewish family, taking place between present-day Frankfurt and Berlin.
Patriarch Symcha Zweifler is planning to sell his delicatessen empire when suddenly his past in Frankfurt’s red-light district comes back to haunt him. Meanwhile, Symcha’s grandson Samuel and his British-Caribbean girlfriend Saba are expecting a son but disagreeing over whether to have the baby circumcised. Samuel’s religious sister Dana travels from Israel to weigh in, and their little brother Leon, an artist, is busy creating provocative family portraits for his latest exhibition. Amid all this, the fate of the family business is still undecided.
A hilarious and relatable series about culture clashes, family legacy and the sticky questions of inheritance.
JIFF presents the Australian Premiere of all six episodes of The Zweiflers across two parts. Watch Part 1 & 2 back-to-back or on different days. Tickets for each part are sold separately.
