“Qedar is the perfect director to bring Freud’s story to the screen.” – The Jerusalem Post
How did Sigmund Freud’s marginalisation as a Jewish man in Vienna during the rise of Hitler shape his theories on psychoanalysis and his personal life? This mesmerising documentary seeks to explore Freud’s life and work using this question as a guiding light. It combines dreamlike animation sequences, extensive excerpts from Freud’s letters and insights from leading psychoanalysts and historians to paint a fresh portrait of one of the greatest thinkers of the 20th century.
Outsider. Freud is the latest addition to filmmaker Yair Qedar’s ongoing The Hebrews Project, a documentary series chronicling the histories of Jewish and Israeli figures of the modern Hebrew literary canon. Qedar has created biographical documentaries about poets Leah Goldberg and Hayim Nahman Bialik, philosophers Karl Marx and Baruch Spinoza, and many more.
Outsider. Freud took home the Best Feature Documentary/Animation prize at both the Jaipur and New Delhi film festivals.
