American born Australian Dr Donna Coleman's eclectic repertory ranges from Bach to Bill Evans and from Beethoven to music created for her yesterday. Her performances and recordings of Charles Ives's compositions (including the solo piano part for the Sydney Symphony's Australian premiere of his Symphony #4) have been lauded worldwide. In this series of Sunday Afternoons at Classic Southside, Donna will perform selected works and discuss their compositional, historical, and aesthetic features in conversation with the audience. This session will feature Copland's marvelous Piano Sonata from 1948 with reference to other compositions by him and by his contemporaries. Come along, have a glass of wine, enjoy the music, and be ready to ask questions and join the discussion!
