The Story

From the international stage, hilarious characters, stories, songs and multimedia directly from the heart and soul, as only Deb Filler can. Funny, real, poignant-reflecting the human condition. Laugh till you cry. A do-not-miss-show.

I DID IT MY WAY treats us to some remarkable, true tales. Deb met maestro LEONARD BERNSTEIN at the Auckland Town Hall (WEST SIDE STORY, MASS, CANDIDE) while he was on tour with the New York Philharmonicin 1974. Bernstein had played GERSHWIN’S, RHAPSODY IN BLUE with a newly formed Jewish orchestra at a Displaced Persons’ Camp in Germany in 1948 for survivors of the Holocaust, including Deb’s father, SOL (25) who had miraculously survived Auschwitz. Teenage Deb ends up bringing LEONARD BERNSTEIN something he never everexpected. And BERNSTEIN offers Deb something in return she treasures forever. And that’s not the only Lenny! Later Deb actually drives a taxi for Leonard Cohen, telling him hilarious Jewish jokes. He became her champion, her best audience ever.
