‘A wonderful family film about real troubles and explains complex issues like poverty, animal rights, and prejudice without being heavy-handed or condescending.’ — Film Threat

Eleven-year-old Thabo lives with his uncle, a ranger in a wildlife reserve in the southern African country Eswatini, and dreams of being a private detective, just like in the movies. If only his home, the small village of Hlatikulu, was not such a peaceful savannah paradise. But things take a sudden turn when one day, on a tourist safari, a rhino that has been murdered for its precious horn is discovered. When Thabo’s uncle, of all people, falls under suspicion, it is up to Thabo and his new friend Emma, who is visiting from Germany, to not only take care of the abandoned baby rhino but also investigate and capture the real culprits.

Based on the popular series of children’s books by the award-winning German author and children’s literacy activist Kirsten Boie.
