Eu e Meu Avô Nihonjin

Australian Premiere

"...reflects the messiness of life and the tragic ironies of history, while maintaining an endearingly sincere tone" – Cinema Daily US

A heartfelt animated feature based on a true story that blends rich cultural heritage with stunning visuals, inspired by the work of Brazilian-Japanese painting.

Noboru is a 10-year-old Brazilian boy with Japanese ancestry. When asked to complete a school project about his family’s history, Noboru begins talking to his grandfather Hideo to find out more about his cultural identity. Hideo had always avoided talking about the past, in particular the story about how he travelled from Japan to Brazil and the difficulties he faced in a new land and culture. Slowly, Hideo begins to open up to Noboru and tells his story. The more Noboru learns about his family and where he came from, the more he begins to see his grandfather in a new light.
