Margie Lou Dyer Quintet

"Margie Lou and her band, steeped in gut-bucket jazz and blues, draw fresh water from an old well. Her piano playing is raw, fiery, mournful, joyous. Ragged and right. I could listen to her dancing left hand all day and night. When she sings, pain turns to jubilation" - Paul Kelly

Margie Lou Dyer's gravelly, astonishingly expressive voice is reminiscent of the best women of early jazz, like Bessie Smith, or Billie Holiday, and her blues-tinged, heavy-grooving New Orleans style of piano playing is unique in Melbourne. Daughter of legendary jazzman Warwick “Wocka” Dyer and musical soulmate and partner of the late Allan Browne, Margie is Melbourne jazz royalty.

The band will comprise of Eugene Ball (Trumpet), Howard Cairns (Double Bass), Hayley Miro (Washboard), Margie Lou Dyer (Vox and Keyboard) and a special mystery guest.

Come catch her perform with her enormously talented Quintet. Not to be missed.
