Step into the world of Fifth of Nisan, where klezmer collides with jazz in an electrifying fusion of old and new. Every Tuesday night in May, the six-piece ensemble takes the stage at Southside Bar, pushing the boundaries of their sound with raw experimentation, fresh compositions, and dynamic on-stage interplay.
This residency is a laboratory of sound, where each week brings something unexpected—new music, spontaneous improvisation, and a special guest joining the band for a one-of-a-kind collaboration.
Led by Rachel Moshel (trumpet) and featuring some of Melbourne’s finest musicians, Fifth of Nisan channels the spirit of Eastern European folk traditions while infusing them with jazz, classical, and contemporary influences.
Come be part of the experiment. No two nights will be the same.
Fifth of Nisan is:
Rachel Moshel – Trumpet
Alex Burkoy – Violin
Tony Hicks – Clarinet & Saxophone
Daniel Mougerman – Keys
Owen Downie – Double Bass
Ben Hendry – Drums
