“[A] poignant look at love and the passage of time.” – Les Echos
The true – and tumultuous – love story of one of French cinema’s most famous couples: Simone Signoret and Yves Montand. She was the Oscar-winning star of Room at the Top and Diabolique, and he was the crooning singer of ‘C’est si bon’ and actor in The Wages of Fear. As perfect as their romance appeared from the outside, it was haunted by Montand’s notorious affair with Marilyn Monroe after he starred alongside her in Let’s Make Love. Despite infidelities and the pressure of life in the public eye, Signoret always refused the role of the victim, and their love was one for the ages.
Led by transformative performances by Marina Foïs and Roschdy Zem, this story of passion, betrayal and devotion is set against the backdrop of Paris’s smoke-filled cafés and twinkling nights populated by figures from late 20th century bohemia. Director Diane Kurys (Entre Nous, Peppermint Soda) focuses on the last 15 years of Signoret’s life, exploring the complexities of marriage, art and the perspective granted in one’s twilight years.
