“Captivating. A modern, at times daring, cinematic experience.” – Interia
Reminiscent of Miloš Forman’s Oscar-winning Amadeus, this stunning biopic transports us back in time to the rise of the masterful composer Chopin – an electrifying, hedonistic, artistically fertile Paris in the 1830s.
After leaving Poland to settle in Paris when he was 21, Frédéric Chopin quickly caused a stir in high society, turning heads and luring crowds with his transcendent piano compositions, becoming the talk of the art world. With his music, he conjured the romantic soul of Paris’s decadent nights like no other composer who came before him. When disease started spreading in his lungs and his health quickly began deteriorating, Chopin felt the ticking clock of mortality, which spurred him to create some of his most resonant and poetic works in the last years of his short life.
Lead actor Eryk Kulm embodies Chopin with the whole spectrum of characteristics that can also be ascribed to the composer’s music: bold, dramatic and provocative, yet tender, reflective and soulful.
This film is co-presented by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Canberra.
