Cinema Reborn is an annual festival developed by a community of cinema enthusiasts programmers, filmmakers, screen historians and critics.
Cinema Reborn's focus is on screen heritage and preservation. From 14 - 17 October at Classic Cinema Elsternwick, Cinema Reborn will present ten recently restored films and film archived-sourced film prints. All will be presented following best practice in the presentation of archival or screen heritage titles, and will reflect the originally intended experience of their creators.
Cinema Reborn is intended to shine a light on the long history of the art of the cinema, the world-wide activity of film restoration and the treasures that exist in the world’s film archives.
Criss Cross – introduced by Jake Wilson, film reviewer for The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald, and the author of Mad Dog Morgan (2015).
Aimless Bullet – introduced by Russell Edwards, a film critic and teacher of Asian Cinema at RMIT University. He is a former President of the FIlm Critics Circle of Australia and an advisor to the Busan International Film Festival.
Sons of Matthew – introduced by Adrian Danks, an Associate Professor in Cinema Studies at RMIT University and co-curator of Melbourne Cinémathèque.
