The Story

Acclaimed jazz saxophonist Wilbur Wilde makes a welcome premiere performance at Southside leading his own quartet, playing swinging jazz standards and beautiful ballads.
With a warm rich Dexter Gordon like sound and masterful execution of his instrument, Wilbur is also a joy to be around and is as entertaining as he is beautiful to hear play.
Wilbur is perhaps one of the most under-rated figures from the 1980s jazz scene, when he lead a dynamic and exciting ensemble of leading soloists (including musicians such as Paul Grabowsky and Steve Housden) at key venues in Melbourne and interstate, and helping to broaden the jazz audience.
As well as being the gregarious and entertaining storyteller that he is, Wilbur Wilde is in fact one of the most under-rated figures in the Melbourne jazz scene, way back to the 1980s when he lead a dynamic and exciting ensemble of leading soloists (including musicians such as Paul Grabowsky and Steve Housden) at key venues in Melbourne and interstate, and helping to broaden the jazz audience.

Highly regarded by many of his jazz musician peers, Wilbur continues to wow audiences with his warm rich Dexter Gordon like sound and masterful execution of his instrument in a relentlessly groovin and swinging fashion.

Wilbur is a joy to be around and is as entertaining to hear tell the funniest of musical stories as he is beautiful to hear play the saxophone.
